In the video, the replace component feature I show is the same component, but a light weight version. This works successfully because all mating reference id's are the same. If you wish to replace a model where mating references are different, you will have broken mates. To avoid this, one trick is to mate the model to be replaced using the 3 default planes(Top, Right, Front). These planes have the same face id across all parts and assemblies, making the task of replacing components a breeze.
